Updated Citizenship Rules Come Into Effect

As per the June 19, 2017 Bill C-6 amendments to the Citizenship Act received royal assent, as of October 11th, 2017 the new changes will officially come into effect. The new requirements that have to be met by permanent residents are:

1. Be physically residing inside Canada for three years out of the past five years (1095 days residing in Canada for past five years);

2. Able to include time spent as a temporary resident towards meeting their physical requirement (everyday spent as a temporary resident can be counted as a half day up to a maximum of 365 days);

3. Retroactive age requirement for applicants between the ages of 18 to 54 years old to take the Knowledge Test for Citizenship.

The above are the main changes that most applicants are looking forward to which will allow them to apply for Canadian Citizenship faster.
